After Root Canal Treatment

Please follow these instructions to ensure proper healing and minimize any discomfort after treatment.

Medications

Your dentist may prescribe antibiotics or pain-relief medication. Please take all prescribed medications exactly as directed.

Pain Management

You may use one of the following medications unless you have an allergy or a medical condition that prevents their use:

  • Paracetamol 500 mg (Panadol)
  • Ibuprofen 400 mg
  • Voltfast 50 mg

If Swelling Occurs

Apply a cold compress to the treated area for 20 minutes, then remove it for 20 minutes. Repeat as needed during the first few hours after treatment.

Eating and Drinking

  • Avoid eating or drinking for 30 minutes after the procedure.
  • Do not touch the treated tooth with your tongue until the temporary filling has fully hardened.

Caring for the Treated Tooth

Immediately after root canal treatment, a temporary filling is often placed. To prevent damage or dislodgement of the filling, avoid chewing hard or sticky foods on the treated side.

Permanent Crown (Cap)

Once root canal treatment is completed, you may need to return to your dentist for placement of a permanent crown (cap) to protect the tooth and restore its full function.

How Much Pain Is Normal After a Root Canal?

It is normal to experience mild to moderate sensitivity or discomfort for a few days following treatment. This should gradually improve over time.

When Should You Contact the Clinic?

Please contact the clinic if:

  • The pain is severe or continues to worsen.
  • Significant swelling develops.
  • You experience any unusual or unexpected symptoms.

We wish you a smooth recovery and a healthy, lasting smile.
